Quick answer

Learn the mission loop before chasing the meta

Learn the mission loop before chasing a perfect build: follow the primary objective, carry samples to extraction, stay near the squad, and bring one support weapon plus answers for groups and armored targets.

Early support weapon

Machine Gun

Use it for sustained pressure on light enemies; crouch or go prone when recoil makes tracking difficult.

Priority target

Orbital Precision Strike

Save it for a predictable heavy target or structure instead of throwing it into every patrol.

First flexible unlock target

Eagle Airstrike

A practical line strike for mixed groups and selected structures once it is available.

Cover the missing job

Open squad slot

Use an unlocked survival, crowd-control, or anti-heavy option that complements the other three slots.

Spend carefully

What early resources do

  • • Medals unlock items inside Warbonds; Warbonds do not expire, so there is no need to panic-buy a page.
  • • Samples only count if someone carrying them extracts. Spending them on ship modules is permanent account progression.
  • • Super Credits buy Warbonds and cosmetics. Decide on a Warbond goal before spending them.
Do not

Protect the mission route

  • • Do not fight every patrol when the objective is elsewhere.
  • • Do not place red stratagem beams through the squad's route or extraction zone.
  • • Do not abandon dropped samples without marking or recovering them when the route is safe.
  • • Do not raise difficulty only for status; move up when the current operation feels controlled.
Next decision

Change one thing at a time

Complete a few operations, identify which squad job is usually missing, then use the loadout builder before buying around that gap.

Phased roadmap

From first 30 minutes to higher difficulty

Each phase has one goal. You do not need to optimize every system at once.

  1. Phase 1

    First 30 minutes

Goal: Understand one complete mission loop.

    • Stay close enough to see how the squad approaches the primary objective.
    • Practice Reinforce and Resupply before the fight becomes chaotic.
    • Watch the red and blue stratagem beams; friendly fire is always active.
    • Reach extraction with any collected samples instead of treating extraction as optional.
  2. Phase 2

    First 5 missions

Goal: Learn objectives, patrol discipline, and one dependable role.

    • Try more than one enemy front so you can feel how target pressure changes.
    • Bring one support weapon consistently while learning when it is safe to call it down.
    • Ping heavy threats and supplies instead of assuming the squad sees them.
    • Finish operations when possible; a mission is one part of an operation.
  3. Phase 3

    First 10 levels

Goal: Build coverage, not a collection of overlapping explosions.

    • Unlock options that cover different jobs: groups, armor, survival, and objectives.
    • Spend early Samples on ship modules that support the stratagem families you actually use.
    • Practice a fallback primary weapon routine for the moments when support gear is unavailable.
    • Use public squads to observe roles, but do not copy a high-level kit without knowing its job.
  4. Phase 4

    Choose your first Warbond

Goal: Buy for utility you will use, not for a single screenshot or tier label.

    • Open every page and count the items that solve a real gap in your current kit.
    • Remember that Warbonds remain available after release.
    • Use the first-Warbond guide for the current editorial recommendation and its tradeoffs.
    • Keep enough Medals to unlock the path toward the items you actually want.
  5. Phase 5

    Raise difficulty deliberately

Goal: Move up when your decision-making is stable, not when every fight is already lost.

    • Raise difficulty when you can finish objectives and extract on the current level with resources to spare.
    • Drop back one level when learning a new faction, weapon, or mission type.
    • At higher difficulty, check the squad for a reliable anti-heavy answer before launch.
    • Use failure to identify one missing job, then change one part of the loadout at a time.
Avoid

Five beginner mistakes

  1. 01Throwing a strike at a target that teammates are already closing on.
  2. 02Taking four offensive call-ins and leaving no support weapon or survival plan.
  3. 03Using every reinforcement immediately without first finding a safe landing lane.
  4. 04Assuming a high kill count matters more than the mission objective.
  5. 05Copying old loadout advice without checking the current build and known issues.
Squad choice

Solo, public, or high-level friends?

Solo: useful for learning controls at low risk, but it hides how squad roles and reinforcement decisions work.

Public matchmaking: the best default classroom. Follow pings, observe spacing, and cover a job the squad is missing.

High-level friends: ask them to explain the route instead of carrying every objective. Borrowing gear is useful; copying an unexplained kit is not.
